That is one of our favorite quotes here at MDB. We take it upon ourselves to think creatively at every turn on how we can make green business a part of our everyday operations, from how we conduct ourselves as a family, to the products we make. Here's a look at how we are doing that today:
Solar Panels — During the summer of 2009, MDB began one of its most significant developments, using renewable energy to drive our business on a day-to-day level. We have projected that without solar energy, our electricity consumption would have been 279K kWh per year. With solar energy, consumption is cut from 279K kWh to 166K kWh per year.
100% Cardboard Recycling - Since our inception, we have always believed in recycling. What began as an office with 3 people, recycling paper and cans, has turned into a multi-location business, with over 100 people, across 3 countries, that in addition to continuing to recycle paper, cans, plastic, and other daily materials, also recycles 100% of all the cardboard boxes from potential waste packaging. Now think about this for a second: We are a company, that not only vigorously inspects every piece of every crib before it leaves the factory, but also double checks every piece and assembles them again when they arrive at our headquarters. That is over 25 tons annually, of cardboard packaging, that goes into every piece, of every product, every day. We are proud of continuing traditions, and expanding them to the point that they influence our daily business.
Falcon Waterless Urinals - We try our best to think of everything. So when it came time to make some improvements at our offices, we chose to team up with Falcon Waterfree Technologies and install waterless urinals in our offices. EACH Waterfree urinal saves 40,000 gallons or more of fresh water every year. More fresh water supply for the world equals improving environmental health equals a better place for everyone. Now that's smart thinking.
Smart Products - Smart Design - 4-in-1 Convertible Smart products are what we are all about. We are one of the pioneers of the 4-in-1 Convertible Crib, a crib that grows as your family grows to suit the needs of your child. The crib transforms into four different stages to match the development and growth of your family. We figure, if products last longer, we save the Earth and we give our your family the ability to do more with our product.
Smart Wood — The Beauty of New Zealand Pine - The majority of our Cribs are made of wood. Wood is a natural product of the Earth, and we feel it is important for us to find wood that meets our high safety standards, but also meets the "safety standards" of our Earth. We scoured the Earth until we found the perfect match: New Zealand Pine.
Sustainable Wood:
NZ Pine is a fast-growing tree. The fully sustainable pine grows in forests at a rate where the amount of trees used, nearly equals the amount of new trees sprouting everyday. Making sure that what we take from the Earth is equal to what we give back.
Safe Wood:
NZ Pine is also a softwood species that has a unique uniform density. This density means no randomness
of "knots" and other natural defects that affect the overall quality of the wood. Stable uniform wood equals
a stable uniform safety standard and quality.
